An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference near the half furlong marker involving Nortonthorpe Boy (GB), placed second, ridden by Luke Morris and Mystery Angel (IRE), placed third, ridden by Kevin Stott.
The Stewards considered that the interference had improved Nortonthorpe Boy (GB)’s placing as Stott had committed for and established a clear run to the inside of Nortonthorpe Boy (GB), before that gelding shifted left-handed across the path of Mystery Angel (IRE), forcing Stott to steady for several strides and switch right-handed.
As a result, Mystery Angel (IRE) had lost significant ground and momentum, before rattling home out wide, making relentless headway to be beaten a rapidly diminishing head margin and therefore revised the placings as follows: Second: Mystery Angel (IRE), Third: Nortonthorpe Boy (GB).
The interference was found to be accidental as Nortonthorpe Boy (GB) had lugged quickly left-handed before being swiftly corrected by Morris.
Following the race, Joshua Bryan reported that Henrik (IRE), placed fourth, hung left-handed under pressure.
The Veterinary Officer reported that Mystery Angel (IRE), which was promoted to second, lost its left-fore shoe.
