See also » Second-success-for-fast-horse-Furnace-Creek we were disappointed with him in Dundalk but we changed his training around for the last day at Listowel and we were hoping to build on that. We think he did that. He is a big, fast horse and has settled nicely at home and was also nice and settled today at the races. He is a horse with ability and has plenty speed. We have eight horses in between flat and jumps. Joseph Anthony Murray, trainer
The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident at around the furlong pole involving Furnace Creek, ridden by B.M. Coen, placed first, First Gentleman, ridden by N.M. Crosse, placed second, and Little Queenie, ridden by L.T. McAteer, placed fourth where it appeared Little Queenie got tight for room on the rail after receiving pressure from its outside. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. B.M. Coen stated he thought he was clear of the horses on his inner but on reviewing the video footage, accepted he made a misjudgement. N.M. Crosse stated that the he received pressure from his left and was trying to be mindful of the horse on his inner. L.T. McAteer stated that things got tight and added that while he did get contact from the horse outside him, it didn't overly inconvenience him. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards found B.M. Coen was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden Carelessly, and having considered his record in this regard, the Raceday Stewards cautioned him on this occasion
The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident turning out of the back straight involving Dream Today, ridden by C.J. MacRedmond, Mercurial, ridden by Rachael Blackmore, and First Gentleman, ridden by N.M. Crosse where it appeared Dream Today got tight for room and clipped a heel as a result. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. C.J. McRedmond stated his mount was running keen and clipped a heel as he was trying to take back
Rachael Blackmore stated that she kept a straight line throughout and did not contribute to the incident. N.M
Crosse stated that he was coming across but did not cause interference. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards did not apportion blame to any rider and as such they took no further action
N.M. Crosse, rider of First Gentleman, trained by Mrs John Harrington, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount got tight for room in the straight.
