A.J. Slattery, rider of Wordsworth, trained by Josh Halley, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount hung right in the straight

The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident in the latter stages of this race involving Taipan (FR), ridden by S.T. McCullagh, placed second, Wordsworth, ridden by A.J. Slattery, placed fourth, La Hacienda (GB), ridden by G.F. Carroll, placed third, Mellow Magic (GB), ridden by N.G. McCullagh, placed fifth, and Sea Oscar (GB), ridden by H.J. Horgan, placed sixth. where it appeared interference occurred. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence, H.J. Horgan stated that he was weakening quickly when receiving a bump from his outside. G.F. Carroll stated that he received pressure from his outside. N.G. McCullagh stated that his horse moved in as a result of Wordsworth hanging inwards. A.J. Slattery stated that his mount jumped the road crossing and shifted inwards. S.C. McCullagh stated that he was clear and did not contribute to the interference. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards could not apportion blame on any single rider and therefore took no further action

The Raceday Stewards informed Mrs Lorna Fowler, trainer that Agenda (GER), would have to be recertified before being declared to run from stalls again

The Raceday Stewards requested a report from Joseph Patrick O'Brien, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Powerful Aggie (FR), placed first, as compared with its previous run on the 22nd April at Navan when finishing last of five runners beaten forty lengths by the winner Emily Dickinson over one mile six furlongs on heavy ground. The trainer reported that his charge returned to race at Navan after a lay off. He added that the step up in trip and the sounder underfoot conditions also contributed to the improved performance. Having considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards noted the content of the report

The Raceday Stewards interviewed A.J. Slattery, rider of Wordsworth, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race following receipt of photographic evidence submitted by the IHRB Veterinary Officer Graham Adams. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. In his evidence, A.J. Slattery stated that he use's his whip in a correct manner on every mount on every raceday. Mr. Josh Hally, trainer, stated that Wordsworth is a thin skinned animal and marks easily to his knowledge. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered all evidence, the Raceday Stewards were of the opinion that A.J. Slattery was in breach of R10.3(f) by using his whip with excessive force. Having considered his record in this regard, the Raceday Stewards suspended, A.J. Slattery for two racedays.
