K.M. Donoghue, rider of Wa Wa trained by Dermot Anthony McLoughlin, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount made a mistake at the second last

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Wa Wa, trained by Dermot Anthony McLoughlin, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal

The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of I Am Spider Man, ridden by P. Byrnes, and trained by Noel C. Kelly. Evidence was heard from the rider and from Jamie Kelly, Authorised Representative for the trainer. P

Byrnes, stated that his instructions were to settle his mount as quickly as possible as it can be a difficult ride. He said he was familiar with the horse having won on it previously and having walked the track, he felt the ground closest to the rail would benefit his mount. He said his mount was further back than he wanted him to be early in the race and was disappointed with the feel he got throughout. When questioned on his riding in the latter part of the race, he stated that he was trying his best and confirmed that he had used his whip in a manner that had not connected with his mount despite how it may have appeared. Jamie Kelly, confirmed the instructions given and expressed his disappointment with the run. He confirmed that the trainer had expressed his disappointment that his charge was not ridden wide throughout the race in search of better ground, which he felt was a contributing factor in the disappointing performance. The Stewards also received a report from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veteriary Officer, who stated that I Am Spider Man, was found to have nasal discharge post race, but was otherwise post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanation offered by the trainer's representative. They were, however, satisfied that P. Byrnes was in breach of Rule 212.A(ii) in that he had failed to fulfill his obligations to be seen to be the subject of a genuine attempt to achieve from his mount, timely real and substantial efforts to achieve a best possible placing. Having taken his clean record in this regard into account, the Stewards suspended P

Byrnes for 10 racedays and ordered that he forfeit his riding fee and suspended I Am Spider Man for 42 days in accordance with the provisions of Rule 212 C.(d). Furthermore, the Stewards referred the betting pattern of I Am Spider Man to a Senior Racing Official for further investigation
