Gambled on Honey wins in style
It's been a long time coming because she had some nice runs in the book. She was just beaten in Gowran and ran well here before then. She had a problem with ulcers last year and it took us a while to get her right. She was out in the field at six o'clock this morning and she'll go back out tonight. I knew she was in good nick and if she hadn't run well today, we would have been scratching our heads. The layoff was a worry but I put in a new circular gallop with deep sand and we were getting plenty of work into her. We don't gallop her because of the ulcers, we just do plenty of cantering. John Murray has a few horses with me and that's his first winner, so I'm delighted for him. She's a big mare and her full-sister has won four chases for Emma Lavelle, so she's a chaser down the road but we'll go for another one of these next.

He's a big weak horse so we wanted to give him a bit of time before stepping him up to three miles. He loved the trip. It was a weak enough race, so it was a good opportunity for him and he'll probably go handicapping now.

That's the first official winner I've bred, I bought her five years ago in foal to the dam, so it's a long wait. My mother does most of the work so she deserves the credit for breeding and she named her. We flipped a coin!. She was very good. That's what she was doing at home and I was hoping she'd do that. To breed them and own them is an extra thrill. It's a fantastic pedigree. The dam is a full-sister to Yorkhill and that's why I bought her, and the family goes back to The Listener and Dooneys Gate who was my first winner over fences, so it ties in like that. We might go for a Listed race, either in the spring if we give her a break, or at Navan in five weeks. We'll see how she comes out of this first.
