The Stewards interviewed D.A. McCormack, rider of Kimbay, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that D.A. McCormack was in breach of R10(3)(e) by hitting his horse other than down the shoulder or on the hind quarters, R10(3)(f) by using his whip with excessive frequency and R10(4) by failing to give his mount time to respond to the whip and consequently cautioned him having taken his good previous record into consideration.
An extended handicap for three yrs old and upwards (85 = 9st 10lb) Weights - Top weight in the original handicap shall not be less than 9st 10lb Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 5lb extra; for each race won. Any horse rated above 85 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 9st 10lb. Subsequently, the excess over 85 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse.
