D.N. Russell, rider of Boudry (FR), trained by Gordon Elliott, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that he was in some discomfort after his mount made a bad mistake at the first hurdle and consequently was unable to ride him during the early part of this race. A. Ring, rider of Hannah Huxwell trained by H. Smyth, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung throughout this race. The Stewards requested a report from Dermot Anthony McLoughlin, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Uptake (GB), placed first, as compared with its recent run at Tramore 17th August. The trainer reported that his charge failed to handle the pace and tight track at Tramore and lost enthusiasm when passed after the fourth last hurdle whereas today he was more comfortable on the bigger galloping track where he was dropped in off the pace and delivered his challenge comfortably. He also felt that the underfoot conditions today was also a contributing factor to the improved performance. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.
