The Stewards enquired into an incident in the closing stages involving Pyromaniac, ridden by F.M. Berry, placed second, Hudson's Bay, ridden by P.J. Smullen, placed fifth and Fact Or Folklore, ridden by W.J. Lee, placed first, where it appeared interference had taken place. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that W.J. Lee was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly and having considered his record, suspended him for two race days. S. Foley, rider of Back Off Mate trained by A.L.T.Moore, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount stumbled, hung left and was on and off the bridle throughout.
An extended handicap for three yrs old and upwards (100 = 10st) Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 5lb extra; for each race won. Any horse rated above 100 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 10st. Subsequently, the excess over 100 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any three year old rated above 100 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
