He was a horse that was meant to be a breeze-up horse, but he put up a splint and we had to regroup. There is (a winners' race coming up) but six furlongs was too short for him so, wherever we go, he will want to be going further. He has just a bit of class that got him through. He's for sale. Carroll, placed first, Abiding Star, ridden by C.D. Hayes, placed fourth, and Emerald Banner, ridden by S. Foley, placed fifth, where it appeared S. Foley had to sit for a few strides. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned
In his evidence, S. Foley stated that his mount was unable to fill a gap that was closing due to horses rolling around in front of him and that he had to sit for a couple of strides. C.D. Hayes stated that he had to switch off heels, but felt he was clear of Emerald Banner. G.F. Carroll stated that his mount rolled a little right due to greenness, but felt he was clear of Emerald Banner. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards took no further action.
