Layfayette Hill wins final juvenile maiden of year
she’s improved with every run, and she’s a big filly that will improve again next year. She wants every yard of a mile and will go further. She’s going to win plenty more races and she goes on that (surface). Her only moderate run was in Galway where it was quite heavy and it was a good maiden. She is a lovely looking filly; Katie bought her as a yearling and she has a good pedigree but she didn’t breeze quick enough.
Halpin doubles up in opening Dundalk races
he’s been working well at home. We ran him here the last day and we were a bit worried that his wind might have been catching him out so we brought him off to the Curragh to have a scope done. That came back clear so we said that we’d keep going and he’s done it well there tonight. The key to him is that he has to settle. If he settles early and drops the head he’s fine but if he runs free that’s when you are in trouble. He’s a bit fragile so we have to mind him but hopefully he’ll be okay in the morning and we can come again.
Warrior completes Nursery hat-trick
it’s her first time over seven (furlongs) but the headwind nearly stopped her. It’s a big factor there tonight but she’s very gutsy and all heart. We’re delighted to win three on the bounce and she’s going to go on holiday now for two or three months. The boys have been with me a long time and are very lucky.
View The Bay scores for Slattery & Coen
it’s grand to win her maiden. I was afraid she wasn’t ready enough and Ben said she gave two big heaves so she probably needed it. I was looking for a five or six furlong maiden but I couldn’t get it and took a gamble and came here. She’s had a lot of niggly problems and is not easily trained. We’ll probably continue now for the winter and go for a handicap over a shorter trip.
Alfredo Arcano breaks E100,000 prizemoney mark with 7th win
he’s a big strong horse and is turning into a good sprinter. I was worried tonight about the headwind and not a lot of horses are doing what he did and finishing off. He’s becoming more professional and we’ll see what the handicapper does with him. He wasn’t invited for Dubai but he’s qualified for the dirt there now. Lingfield is there as well and there is a Fast Track Qualifier in Newcastle so his options are open.
Well backed Billyfairplay records easy handicap win
he got a handy enough lead there and he faced into the headwind well but he’s going to get a fair hike for that. He’s won three now and is good and genuine. He’s just coming to himself and is definitely better on the all-weather. He grows a leg on that surface and is nowhere near as good on grass. It’s great for the lads, Pat and Cathal Lynch from Clogherhead.
Mulholland bags first winner from new yard
that’s my first winner since moving yards recently to just outside Portadown in County Armagh. I have seven horses in at the moment. . he (Rag Tatter) just got a bit tired in the last half-furlong last week. He’s a wee bit of a funny horse and things just need to go his way but he was handicapped to beat the favourite Tyrconnell (unplaced). He has ability and things worked out well for him today. Hopefully that will give him a bit of confidence that he’s got his head in front.
