An enquiry was held to consider two pieces of interference shortly after the start involving the winner, Turanga Leela (GB), ridden by Stevie Donohoe; Under Curfew (GB), placed fifth, ridden by Tom Marquand; Englishman (GB), unplaced, ridden by Luke Morris; House Deposit (GB), placed sixth, ridden by Zak Wheatley and Excelinthejungle (IRE), placed seventh, ridden by Martin Dwyer.
As a 7lb claimer, Wheatley was offered the opportunity to be accompanied in the enquiry but declined.
In the first incident, Donohoe was cautioned for careless riding as he angled left-handed when insufficiently clear, causing minimal interference to Under Curfew (GB).
In the second incident shortly after, Donohoe was suspended for 6 days for careless riding as having straightened his mount he further angled left-handed when again insufficiently clear, causing considerable interference to the four horses on his inside, two of which, House Deposit (GB) and Excelinthejungle (IRE), clipped heels.
The winner, Turanga Leela (GB), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Redcar on 26 October 2020 where the mare finished fifteenth of sixteen runners, beaten by 11½ lengths.
The representative of John Mackie’s explanation that the yard appeared to be coming back into form was noted.
Turanga Leela (GB) was routine tested.
The performance of Chocco Star (IRE), which started favourite and finished unplaced, was considered.
Chelsea Banham could offer no explanation for the filly’s performance.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Chocco Star (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
