A winner here over hurdles in May, the Barry Connell trained gelding twice run well in beginners chases over further. It was bottomless ground in Limerick the last day and he pulled up so we said we’d wait until we got a bit of nicer ground and put a pair of cheek pieces on. There is a fair bit going on up in his head and I think they helped him to concentrate. I wasn’t sure how much battle or fight he’d have but to be fair to him now he got the job done today. It’s a bonus. We knew he had a little bit of ability and he got his conditions today and it was great to come out the right side of the photo finish. He’ll tip away for the summer. I had some very good horses, had lots of winners but gave up training for 10 years and we moved to Australia. We came home two weeks before the lockdown and one of the reasons was Harry wanted to have a go at being a jockey. He had always been listening to these stories and watching DVDs and videos of our horses running. We can only train what we have and I have to thank Marc (Salmon) who has stuck with me when others deserted. He has three horses with me, we're looking for a couple more and if it wasn't for good owners I'd be finished. he has been a good, fun horse and has won five races for us now. He is owned by the Kings Horses Syndicate - I was in school in Kings Hospital in Dublin and a bunch of friends from there own him. Between him and Diane (Duffy) they have done an amazing job with this horse and keeping him sweet at this age and this stage of his life. He's absolutely loving it.
