FormscanBy Alan Magee - LIFE IN THE PARK is without a win in over two years but is generally consistent in valuable handicaps and has a solid each-way chance. The selection was placed in ‘Nationals’ at Ballinrobe and Kilbeggan last year and has again figured prominently this year at the Cheltenham Festival and when beaten less than two lengths last time in the Galway Plate. The yard remains in cracking form and The Short Go is another to consider after finishing second to another stablemate Senior Chief at Cheltenham last month. Gordon Elliott saddles over half of the field and riding arrangements suggest American Mike is the pick, while Yeah Man and Perceval Legallois are part of a strong Gavin Cromwell quartet.

To be honest, he's probably one of the horses that makes me scratch my head more than any other. He keeps disappointing me and then he comes back with a good one again. He has obviously a big engine on his day, when he's right, but he's not easy to train. I thought Jack gave him a great ride. thanks to Gordon for putting me on the horse and it was because of him (having withdrawn two horses) that I ended up getting into the Kerry National as a second-reserve last month. To be able to repay him back is great. it was fairly simple the whole way around, he jumped from fence-to-fence and it was only a question of trying to stretch them coming down off the hill. I was aware he had race-fitness on his side so I wanted to use that. I had gone through the race 100 times beforehand but Plan A worked and he ended up doing what I planned in doing. He is only a handy-sized horse but gets from A to B very quickly. That's my first winner for Gordon so it's not a bad one to get. I've been going into the Gordon's for the past two seasons and while I was getting plenty opportunities, I didn't get much luck previously. This game is a big roundabout and you have to keep all doors open and I enjoy going to Gordon's where it's good craic and I ride some good horses. I'm delighted for the Byrnes as we chose not to go to (local) Listowel last week because of the ground. We ended up here and while it wasn't ideal for him, he handled it well.
