Formscan By Eamonn Murphy - A Euro stake on all of Jim Bolger’s runners for last year’s turf campaign, returned a profit of 24.62 (March 24th to November 3rd). No other in the top sixteen in the Irish Flat Trainers Championship showed a profit and the Coolcullen maestro could have the answer to this year’s ‘Madrid,’ in the shape of REAL APPEAL. The German-bred did well in France in 2019 for Matthieu Palussiere and Theresa Marnane, and he was bought in advance of Royal Ascot for 265,000 pounds. It won’t be easy for the three-year-old now starting off in handicaps off 95. On the other hand it’ll be disappointing if he can’t make a major impression with his sights lowered. Seven furlongs is an interesting experiment for Real Appeal too, with the head-gear that he’s been wearing left off. Hong Kong will be on all short-lists. The betting will hopefully reveal some clues. The King Of Kells, Bella Brazil and Varna Gold have the advantage of having had outings already this year, after competing at Dundalk. Michael Mulvany, trainer of The King Of Kells, also has In From The Cold in the mix. He recently said: “I’d like to run the two of them if they both get in. They both seem to handle a bit of dig in the ground and they’re two good, honest horses. The King Of Kells ran well last week and I’d say this trip (seven furlongs) is ideal for him. The other horse might get a bit further down the line, but the ground is going to heavy and it will be good to get them started. If both horses run, I’m not sure which would come out on top.”
