This developed into a duel between Major Sensation and Save The Bacon down the straight with the former finding more before the last to settle matters.

Philip Carberry's mount had chased the leaders throughout and moved up to challenge turning for home. He started to edge ahead approaching the last and kept on strongly on the run-in to claim the pot.

Arthur Moore's charge was winning from 4lb out of the handicap and the trainer admitted he was tempted by the ?65,000 first prize. A trip to Punchestown for another valuable race (the Menolly Homes Handicap Hurdle) is on the cards.

Save The Bacon was soon in front and was tackled turning in. Steadying going to the last let his rival gain an advantage and he couldn't peg that back.

Brave Right was tucked in behind the front two turning for home. He kept on gamely from the second last without looking like getting at the leaders.

Vaqueras,a moderate sixth, jumping two out stayed on well on the run-in while the same remark applies to Roman Villa (7th two out).

Viso, ridden into third two out, weakened from before the last.

Psycho was easy enough to back (6/4 to 13/8f) and never got involved. Held up early he made up some ground before the third last but was soon under pressure and was beaten before the turn.
