Equus Maximus, one time favourite for the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham, finally got off the mark over hurdles with an easy, if overdue, victory. Willie Mullins, for whom this was his 100th winner of the season, expects more to come from Equus Maximus once he goes over fences. He is a big horse and should stay a trip. Mullins also said that the winner had some minor problems during the season, so all in all he could well turn out to be well above average.

The Level plugged on gamely for second and is overdue a success, while Oran Flyer was not very fluent at his hurdles and ran somewhat below expectations.

Edward O?Grady?s Una Duce is the horse to take out of the race. He had not run for a year and a half and will certainly improve for the outing. He was travelling as well as anything going down the back-straight, but came off the bridle approaching the straight and kept going for third.
