FormscanBy John O'Riordan - Given the excellent form of the Eric McNamara stable, MY FRIEND THE WIND has to hold strong claims. Twice a winner over hurdles, the nine-year-old looks nicely treated off a chase mark which is 13lb lower. Although yet to get his head in front over fences, the gelding has been placed on two occasions. Following a promising fifth in a handicap chase at Ballinrobe last month, he should be spot on for this assignment. Locally trained Definiteadare can readily be forgiven a below par run at Tramore last time, as he was running from 14lb out of the handicap. Back in his own grade, with Michael O'Sullivan remaining loyal, Charles Coakley's gelding has to be respected. Da Big Fella, owned and trained by the race sponsor, is sure to have been laid out for this particular meeting.

He was a very backward horse last year and we left him off for three or four months and he seems to have turned the corner since he came in. His jumping has always been a problem for him, even though he has an awful lot of schooling done and jumped well today, bar the second last. It was a poor race but he did it well and he gave him a grand ride and everything worked out well. He is a 2m4f horse on better ground, will improve again for better ground and that's the owner's (John Earls) first winner with me.

I'm only 15 minutes away from the track and while I've won at a lot of racecourses, Killarney has been a bogey for me and that's my first winner here. The pressure is always on to have a winner in Killarney and I've been trying for a few years so this is great. He was in good order and we were lucky with him on his last couple of runs. Michael did everything super and he said his only worry was the loose horse. I got him recently to train and Listowel will be our next outing. I train eight horses, we might have one runner tomorrow but he is first reserve.

That’s my first winner and I train just down the road in Muckross. We bred the horse ourselves so we are delighted. My wife Valerie had horses before with Tom Cooper and a few others. He’s a horse that was showing ability at home but not on the track. He has really improved this year. We have six riding out at the moment all our own. I have the licence three years and we’ve had a few point-to-point winners. As a foal he was a big fella and that’s how he got the name. He’s crying out for a fence.
