Silvestre De Sousa, the rider of Tranchee (IRE), placed fourth, had appeared to stop riding shortly before the winning post.
After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, De Sousa explained that the gelding hung left-handed across the heels of the winner Tintoretto (IRE) causing him to have to take a check and as he was concerned that Tranchee (IRE) was continuing to hang left-handed he therefore felt it prudent to keep hold of the gelding's head until he crossed the line.
His explanation was noted.
Following the race, Ben Sanderson reported that Chookie Dunedin (GB), which started second-favourite and finished unplaced, ran too freely.
