Lebanon battles well in opener
I'd say the first and second are two nice animals but mine is going to be a very nice mile and a quarter or mile and a half filly next year. She showed me a lot of toe early on and then disappointed but she grew and kept staying better and better. The last day she stayed on at the death so we said this was as close to a mile as we could get this time of year. I'm going to ease off her now as that's her fourth run. I was worried about the ground but Dave Keena (part owner) being a local kept a good eye on it and said they were doing a great job watering it. To be fair to Bellewstown they are putting some of our bigger, better budget tracks to shame. It's a marvellous effort because we are in a drought.
Scream gets her 'own way' to open account
Sometimes you're better to be in a maiden than a handicap, and she got it all her own way. Around here if you get your own way then you have a chance. It's nice for the (Pulse Racing Ireland) syndicate (from Oranmore) and it's their first winner. She stayed well but it helped getting her own way and she enjoyed it. It's as fast as she wants it but they have done a cracking job here on the ground. It's as safe as it can be with the heat.
Melody hangs on to give Lyons & Keane quick brace
I'm delighted for Vincent (Gaul, owner) as she won at Limerick the day his son got married last week, and this was on his bucket list to win here as he lives not far from here,. She's a different filly since she's been in foal. I'm not sure how many days we have left with her but we won't be hard on her as she's done her job. If there is one more in her that's all it will be. She was difficult to train last year. She was a worrier but Vincent put her in foal and that has transformed her.
Sec bounces back to give Prendergast double
I'm very pleased with that. Her best form is on soft ground but they have watered very well and she's a half-sister to Hailstone who won on fast ground and to Candy Apples who won here on fast ground. The last day she disappointed us at Killarney and I don't really know why. Maybe it was the long drive down, I don't know, if only they could talk!. She never really runs a bad race and she's bounced back today. We knew she was in very good form and she kicked her groom this morning, John Dillon, and he's in Naas Hospital. He brought her out for a pick (of grass) and I hope that eases John's pain. He got a kick in the stomach and they are keeping him in for observation.
