Prior to this race, Jeremy Scott was asked to explain the reason why he was running Manofmanywords (GB) here at Wincanton on going described as Soft, Heavy in places, having reported that the gelding was unsuited by the Soft ground at Chepstow on 4 February 2022.
Scott’s representative’s explanation that the ground at Chepstow was riding particularly tacky in their opinion and after walking the course here today concluded that the ground would be better suited to Manofmanywords (GB) on this occasion.
The winner, Sabrina (IRE), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Wincanton on 3 February 2022 where the mare finished fourth of eight, beaten by 25 lengths.
Paul Nicholls explained that Sabrina (IRE) has returned from a long lay off and has improved from each race leading up to today, which was the mare’s first run in a Handicap with a tongue tie fitted.
His explanation was noted, and Sabrina (IRE) was routine tested.
The performance of Henschke (IRE), which was pulled up, was considered.
Warren Greatrex’s explanation that the gelding was unsuited by the Soft, Heavy in places ground on this occasion and would prefer a softer surface.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Henschke (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities other than the gelding lost its left-hind shoe.
The performance of Barford Diva (GB), which was pulled up, was considered.
Mitchell Hunt’s explanation that the mare was unsuited by the Soft, Heavy in places ground over 2 miles and 5 furlongs on this occasion and would prefer a faster surface, was noted.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Barford Diva (GB) failed to reveal any abnormalities other than the mare lost its left-fore shoe.
