Cooper scores timely win for Gigginstown
I'd my first ever winner (Church Island) in this race in 1980 and rode it myself!. he (Lieutenant Colonel) improved from his run at Navan and is a decent horse; the horse that beat him then looks a fair horse. He looked to stay well and is great jumper; the majority of their horses (Gigginstown House Stud) jump exceptionally well and he should be able to compete in a few of the novices after that.
Layla Joan scores for Elliott/Carberry
Paul is always a little bit too confident! She's a grand mare though and it's nice to get the new year off to a winning start. It mightn't have been the strongest of races but she did it nicely and probably didn't even know she had a race. We'll find a little mares' race for her either here or England next and I'm delighted for her owner (Willie Murphy).
Civena battles gamely for O'Neill
She likes this places and the weight maybe told with Talbot Road. She was getting a stone and it made the difference,.
Thelobstercatcher wins a 2nd staying chase
David (Casey) was unbelievable on him and is riding as good as he was when he was 21 or 22! . I thought he'd struggle on the heavy ground as there's some difference from the ground he won on the last day and he had to battle hard to get back up. We've always been dreaming about the Thyestes Chase with him as his owner George Moore comes back for it every year and I'd also like to keep him going for the Irish National if I thought he'd get into it.
Charts completes double for Copper & Hughes
It's good that he's won anyway. He went up 4lb the last day for finishing second,.
Mooneys gain compensation with Wooly win
he ran his heart out and was a great old servant but at least this will soften the blow a bit. He (Wooly Tom) did well to keep going on that ground; I put cheek-pieces on him but was doubting myself this morning, as I thought he'd run too free on the ground. The fact he wasn't carrying a lot of weight was a help too.
Cillian's Return wins Fairyhouse finale
he did it well but needed to, as he had some solid form. He knew his job and improved since Punchestown; he was a nice horse in the spring but was raw and we needed to gave him a summer's grass, which involved a bit of patience. He'll come on again and he's not a bad horse.
