Tom McGreevy enjoys himself out in front
He got his own way in front a little bit and was able to save something for the home turn. He’s a headstrong horse who needs to be left alone in front and today they let him do his own thing. We’ve been taken on for the lead in previous races. Around a sharp track like this, being on the front end really suited. He might go back handicapping now.
Tullypole Annie a notable winner for Flood
We’re based in Kilcock and we've had 35 or 40 point-to-point winners and a hunter chase winner (in Cork). The Jolly Boys Syndicate are from Summerhill and Trim, and two of my cousins are involved in it. She’d a good run the last day and we thought she had come on a bit. Unfortunately Barry Browne couldn’t ride her with it being it was a 7lb claimers’ race because he’s ridden her all the way along and been a good help to us. But it was great to get Paddy (O’Hanlon). We only started schooling her to keep her sweet when she was running on the Flat but, in fairness, she enjoys her jumping. I think there is something for her in Wexford in 10 days and I think there could be something shortly after in Wexford.
Dartan keeps winning for Smith
He’s a laid-back horse who just does enough. I don’t think he’s one that’s ever going to win by too far. He stays well and you’d imagine three miles will be no problem to him. He just switches off nicely and he jumped well today. I’d say that track would be tight enough for him as well. We’ll continue to mix and match and maybe pick out a nice handicap on the Flat with him before too long.
It's Time Again for Barry
I’d say the (good) ground made an awful difference to her. She ran poorly at Clonmel a couple of times and we said we’d put her away and wait for better ground. She’s a small mare so I told Dillon to keep her out wide as she gets a bit claustrophobic when she’s in around horses.
Huckleberry Rock wins under champion conditional
L'impertinent an all-the-way winner under Torrens
There were a couple of better-class horses in the race today but jumping is his forte and after the first two fences he had the others under a bit of pressure. He just got close to two at the top of the hill but he was brilliant again at the last. He’s not a married man’s ride. He goes as fast as he can and you just have to go with him. We’ll try and see if there’s another race here for him at some point during the summer, horses for courses. Young John Shinnick won on him here over hurdles and I had him declared for the ride but he hadn’t had enough rides over fences to be eligible for this race. It was hard luck on John but he got a great ride from Simon.
Defan gives McGrath his fourth winner
Land Afar a first bumper success for McCann
He was bred by the owners in Monaghan. The last day in Cork he was a wee bit keen and the ground was bad that day. I was a little concerned about running him today because he’s such a big horse and I was wondering would he let himself down on the ground, but he did and won well. He was only 7 or 8 lengths (8.75L) behind Vanillier in a point-to-point and he got a setback after that. He’s a big raw horse, a chaser in the making and that’s something we always wanted.
