An enquiry was held into the running and riding of El Jefe (IRE), ridden by Nathan Moscrop and trained by Brian Ellison, which made steady late headway to finish third, beaten by 21 lengths.
The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of El Jefe (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated his instructions were to sit midfield, and to try and get the gelding switched off as it was being stepped up in trip from 2 miles.
He added that El Jefe (IRE) raced keenly in the early stages in a slowly run race and when he asked for his effort leaving the back straight, the gelding began to hang badly both ways, a fact which he reported at Scales.
His explanations were noted.
Following the race, Henry Brooke reported that Ribeye (GB), which was pulled up, ran too freely and the Veterinary Officer reported that NED’S ESCAPE (IRE), unplaced, lost its right fore shoe.
