An enquiry was held to consider whether Tom Bellamy, the rider of Pitch It Up (GB), unplaced, should have continued in the race after the gelding had made a significant mistake jumping the third-last hurdle.
The rider explained that he had given Pitch It Up (GB) a chance to regain its balance after making the mistake and the gelding’s stride pattern had not altered significantly as a result of the error.
He further explained that having ridden Pitch It Up (GB) at home he was familiar with the gelding’s action and in his opinion it did not feel as if there was anything amiss and after regathering its stride shortly after the third-last hurdle he had allowed Pitch It Up (GB) to finish its race in its own time.
His explanation was accepted and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding shortly after the race failed to reveal any abnormalities and was recovering within normal parameters.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Fishkhov (FR), which was pulled up, had bled from the nose.
