Permission was given for Seaborough (IRE) to go early to post and for Faro (FR) to wear a red hood to post.
Iberia (IRE) collided with the running rail on the way onto the course.
Having been checked by the Veterinary Surgeon, the gelding was deemed fit to race.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Steel Wave (IRE), ridden by Miss Immy Robinson and trained by Gary Hanmer which appeared to be tenderly ridden in the rear of the field, to finish ninth of nine, beaten by 36 lengths.
The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated that her instructions were to sit in mid-division, finish as close as she could and be competitive.
She explained that Steel Wave (IRE) doesn’t respond to the whip and doesn’t respond to a strong ride.
She added that the gelding was outpaced from the onset, which she had reported at Scales on returning to weigh in.
The trainer confirmed the instructions and added that the gelding is quirky.
However, he stated that he was dissatisfied with the ride, as Steel Wave (IRE) had been allowed to become detached early on in the race and that had caused the gelding to lose interest and jump poorly without company.
However, he agreed that the gelding had been outpaced thereafter.
Their explanations were noted.
Following the race, Sean Quinlan reported that FENNA’S LOSS (IRE), unplaced, lost its confidence having jumped into the back of Faro (FR) at the first hurdle.
Luca Morgan reported that Norley (IRE), unplaced, blundered at the last flight of hurdles, and he felt it prudent to ease the gelding.
Miss Immy Robinson reported that Steel Wave, unplaced, was outpaced throughout.
