The Veterinary Officer reported that Verbitude (IRE) was a gelding, and not a colt, as published in the racecard.
The Starter reported that Voice Control (IRE) had refused to race.
Laura Mongan and the Starters were interviewed and shown recordings of the start.
Mongan was informed that any future similar behaviour from the gelding may result in the horse being reported to the Head Office of the British Horseracing Authority.
Having reviewed the start the Stewards were satisfied that Voice Control (IRE) had refused to race and was deemed to be a runner.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Perfect Moment (IRE), ridden by Tom O’Brien and trained by Michael Roberts, which was held up in rear before staying on under apparent tender handling in the home straight to finish fifth, beaten by 21 ½ lengths.
The rider and the trainer’s representative were interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the mare failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated that his instructions were to get the Perfect Moment (IRE) around safely and try his best on the mare.
He added that he had asked Perfect Moment (IRE) to improve her position from the top of the hill, but that she was flat out for most of the race.
He continued that the mare had made a significant error on hurdling debut, and that he was keen to keep hold of her head approaching the obstacles to ensure she jumped more fluently on this occasion.
The trainer’s representative stated that she was satisfied that the ride accorded with the instructions given, adding that it was likely that Perfect Moment (IRE) would step up in trip following this run.
Their explanations were noted.
Following the race, Sean Bowen reported that Verbitude (IRE), unplaced, stopped quickly.
