Permission was given for Buford (GB) to be mounted in the chute.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after two incidents of interference approaching and jumping the final hurdle involving the winner, Bathiva (FR), ridden by Paddy Brennan, and Lusaka (IRE), placed second, ridden by Sean Bowen.
The Stewards considered that neither incident had improved Bathiva (FR)’s placing as that gelding was ahead of Lusaka (IRE) when the interference occurred and was going away at the line to win by 3 lengths and Lusaka (IRE) also contributed to the interference by jumping left-handed.
In the first incident, Brennan was cautioned for careless riding as he failed to take sufficient steps to prevent his mount from drifting right-handed carrying Lusaka (IRE) off its intended line.
In the second incident, the interference was found to be accidental in that Lusaka (IRE) jumped left- handed at the same time as Bathiva (FR) jumped slightly right-handed turning Bathiva (FR)’s quarters and causing Lusaka (IRE) to become badly unbalanced.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that the winner, Bathiva (FR) bled from the nose.
