Permission was given for Enchanted Night (GB) to go early to post and for Lordsbridge Boy (GB) to go early to post wearing a red hood.

Approximately 1½ furlongs out, Kolossus (GB), unplaced, lugged right onto Swooper (GB), unplaced, which in turn caused interference to Decision Maker (IRE), unplaced, Helmora (GB), placed eighth and Red Bravo (IRE), placed seventh, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Trevor Whelan, the rider of the winner, Secret Potion (GB), was suspended for 2 days for using his whip above the permitted level from inside 2 furlongs out.
Following the race, David Probert reported that Red Bravo (IRE), placed seventh, reared as the stalls opened and was slowly away as a result and Ray Dawson reported that Helmora (GB), placed eighth, stumbled approximately half a furlong after the start.
