Permission was given for Nocte Volatus (GB) to wear a hood in the Parade Ring only.
Rounding the bend past the stands on the first circuit, Jupiter Rising (FR), which was later pulled up, lugged left-handed at the same time as Auenwirbel (GER), placed seventh, lugged right-handed, causing the rider of CROSS THE PARK (IRE), which was later pulled up, to ease his mount when short of room, but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Auenwirbel (GER).
The apparent improvement in form of the winner, Cheng Gong (GB), which had never previously been placed, was considered.
Neil King’s representative’s comments that the gelding had jumped more fluently on this occasion, which in their opinion was on better ground and officially described as Soft, was noted.
Cheng Gong (GB) was routine tested.
The performance of Aronius (GER), which started favourite and was pulled up before the second-last hurdle, was considered.
The representative of Dan Skelton’s explanation that the race may have come too soon for the gelding with Aronius (GER) having won 10 days previously, was noted.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding shortly after the race revealed Aronius (GER) had sustained a wound to its right-fore.
