Approximately 1 ½ furlongs after the start, as the pace began to steady the rider of Leopolds Rock (IRE), unplaced, had to take a check off the heels of Bondi Man (GB), unplaced but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.

Approaching the 5 furlong marker, the winner Cedar Cage (GB), which was pulling hard, ran onto and clipped the heels of GOOD TIMES AHEAD, placed third, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.

An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race following interference from approaching the final furlong, involving the winner Cedar Cage (GB), ridden by George Eddery, Winklevi (FR), placed second, ridden by Saffie Osborne and Social City (GB), placed fourth, ridden by Mollie Phillips.

Being a 7lb Claimer, Eddery was offered the opportunity to be accompanied in the enquiry but declined.

After hearing evidence from all three riders and viewing recordings of the incidents, it was established that approaching the final furlong Cedar Cage (GB) drifted left-handed under a right-handed drive hampering Social City (GB).

From the final furlong Cedar Cage (GB) continued to drift left-handed under a right-handed drive and intimidated Winklevi (FR) several horse widths off its intended line causing Osborne to become tight for room on the rail and having to check after Eddery had been unsuccessful at eventually attempting to straighten his mount due to losing his grip on the right-rein.

Thereafter from ½ a furlong out Winklevi (FR) had been impeded when Cedar Cage (GB) hung left-handed despite the rider’s best efforts to correct his mount and switch whip hands.

The Stewards were unable to be satisfied that had the interference not occurred Winklevi (FR) would have finished in front of Cedar Cage (GB), as the latter had made strong headway from several lengths behind Winklevi (FR) entering the straight and appeared to be going clear and getting on top in their battle when the interference occurred before winning by 1¼ lengths.

In relation to Social City (GB), which was beaten 3¼ lengths they were also satisfied that Cedar Cage (GB) had not improved its placing by virtue of causing interference to that runner and therefore ordered the placings to remain unaltered.

Eddery was suspended for 4 days for careless riding as he had allowed his horse to drift left-handed for an extended period without timely correction and when insufficiently clear of the aforementioned runners, thereby causing increased interference.
