On the first bend, Drew Breeze (IRE), placed second, shifted left as Sharp Operator (GB), unplaced, edged slightly right causing Sea Of Marmoon (GB), placed seventh, to be checked, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Drew Breeze (IRE).
The Clerk of the Scales reported that Ellie McKenzie, the rider of Sharp Operator (GB), unplaced, trained by James Evans, had weighed in at 8st 4lbs having weighed out at 8st 2lbs.
The rider and the Clerk of the Scales were interviewed.
McKenzie was suspended for 1 day for weighing in at 2lb overweight.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference just inside the final furlong involving the winner, Grimsthorpe Castle (GB), ridden by Andrew Mullen and Drew Breeze (IRE), placed second, ridden by Joey Haynes.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Grimsthorpe Castle (GB)’s placing as the incident occurred just inside the final furlong and although Drew Breeze (IRE) was shifted off its intended line, appeared to lose no significant momentum as a result, to be held at the line with the winning distance of ½ length between them.
The interference was found to be accidental as Grimsthorpe Castle (GB) shifted sharply left before being quickly.
Following the race, Jane Elliott reported that Esspeegee (GB), unplaced, was never travelling and Hollie Doyle reported that Ocean Reach (GB), unplaced, weakened quickly.
