Dara gets off the mark on 21st start
That was grand. He's a nice horse. We'll skip Punchestown and wait for the likes of Ballinrobe and Sligo. It was very frustrating after he finished second to Samcro as we thought he'd win a maiden hurdle nearly 12 months ago. At least he's won at Fairyhouse and it was a nice pot. He's a brilliant jumper and is only a shell of a horse. The Scorpions take time mentally and physically but he'll be a nice horse for the summer. He has a bit of class but made hard work of that and I think he got headed. Tom said he had loads left and he's a stayer. He was also second to the horse that won earlier (Catwalk King) in a bumper. We have his half-brother by Yeats and he's a lovely horse, a speedier and better sort.
Donnelly & Hand on the mark with Millie
It's nice to get one before next week when Willie and Gordon go to war!. I fancied her with the ground drying up. It's hard for those flat-bred mares when it's really heavy ground. She had a good run in Down Royal and I expected her to do something like that, it looked an ideal grade. Hopefully she'll progress and she'll mix it between the Flat and jumps. She's in at Limerick (on Saturday) but I doubt she'll get in as she's nine in the ballot. She was very highly rated on the flat after winning a Navan maiden and she ran alright in a Guineas trial. She loves jumping and is a genuine filly. Her owner (Michael O'Neill) is in the Canaries and he never misses a day, as he absolutely loves her. Hopefully he got to watch it.
Quick turnaround no issue for well-backed Madera
I'm delighted for the Doyles as they've been great supporters of mine,. They have the whole family at home and it's great to win a bumper with her as she's the first out of an unraced mare. When we were walking out of here the other night she wasn't running but when I saw the small field we decided to have a look. She's off out for the summer now and we'll have her back early in the autumn to go hurdling.
