An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference on the run to the line involving the winner, Gardiners Hill (IRE), ridden by James Bowen and You Say What (IRE), placed second, ridden by Tom Scudamore.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Gardiners Hill (IRE)’s placing as, although You Say What (IRE) was forced to race in restricted room inside the final 50 yards before being crowded in the final strides, the ground and momentum lost was only minimal and Scudamore never had to stop riding before being beaten by a neck margin.
Bowen was cautioned for careless riding as he allowed his mount to hang left without correction inside the final half furlong.
The winner, Gardiners Hill (IRE), appeared to show an improvement in form compared with its previous run at Newton Abbot on 8 May 2019, where the gelding finished fourth of eight, beaten 27 lengths.
David Rees could offer no explanation for Gardiners Hill (IRE)'s improved form, other than the gelding had benefitted from an 11lb turnaround in the weights with You Say What (IRE), placed second.
Gardiners Hill (IRE) was routine tested.
