The Stewards requested a report from Sean Aherne, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Nicole's Milan, placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that his charge needs three miles on ground no slower than soft and felt the soft to heavy ground at Limerick on his previous run to be very testing and attributed the improved performance to more favourable ground conditions. Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered and took no further action. The Stewards interviewed J.J. Slevin, rider of Nerual, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10.3(g) in that he had used his whip with the arm above shoulder height. Having taken his previous record in this regard into acount, the Stewards suspended him for three race days and ordered that he addend R.A.C.E for one days tuition on the correct use of the whip The Stewards interviewed I.J. McCarthy, rider of Returntovendor, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of regulation 10.3 (f) in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his previous record in this regard into account, the Stewards suspended him for three race days.
