An enquiry was held to consider why Dianne Sayer, was running Millie The Minx (IRE) here at Carlisle on going described as Good to Firm (Good in Places) having declared the gelding a non-runner at Hamilton Park on 19 June 2019 on ground with the same official description.
The trainer stated that the owner had been very reluctant to run the filly on Good to Firm going but had decided to let Millie The Minx (IRE) take her chance this evening due to lack of opportunities in the near future.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Pumaflor, ridden by Connor Murtagh and trained by Philip Kirby which was slowly into stride and behind in the early stages before being given a hands and heels ride in the straight to finish eleventh, beaten 14 lengths.
The rider and the trainer’s representative were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated his instruction were to jump out smartly and race in a prominent position.
He added that he was unable to carry out his instructions because the gelding jumped awkwardly and missed the break and he was unable to get a forward position.
He further added that he had maintained a hands and heels ride and in his opinion had obtained the best possible position.
The trainer’s representative stated that she was satisfied with the ride given in that having missed the break, he was unable to reach his intended prominent position and because of that he had done his best to recover from being forced to ride a race from the rear of the field.
Their explanations were noted.
Following the race, Andrew Mullen reported that Rock Island Line (GB), unplaced, ran too free and stopped quickly and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
