Al Aasy (IRE) wore earplugs which were removed at the start.
Permission was given for Gather Ye Rosebuds (GB) and God's Window (GB) to wear a red hood to post.
Rounding the final bend, GOD’S WINDOW, placed fourth, shifted marginally right-handed causing the quickly weakening Peking Opera (IRE), unplaced, to be tight for room, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of GOD’S WINDOW.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Al Aasy (IRE), ridden by Cieren Fallon and trained by William Haggas, which finished placed second, beaten by 2 lengths.
Fallon was interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
Fallon stated that the instructions were to drop out and be patient on the gelding.
He explained that he found himself in a pocket further back than an ideal when the eventual winner, Al Qareem (IRE), was asked for its initial effort and extended away from the field exiting the back straight.
He added that upon entering the home straight he was conscious of its running style so he asked the gelding to lengthen when in the clear before asking for its maximum effort approaching the final furlong.
Fallon’s explanation was noted.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Peking Opera (IRE), unplaced, had lost its right hind shoe.
