Royal Canford regal out in front
I’m delighted for her owner/breeder Michael O’Donnell who is a local man from up near the Hill of Allen and has been very patient with her. She ran a cracker the last day in Listowel and I’d say the bit of ease in the ground helped her. She works well at home from the front so we let her rattle. She’s a very sound filly and it’s great to get a maiden win with her.

Make A Challenge storms home in Joe McGrath
He’s improving all season and is showing more and more gears all the time. A lot of people were questioning why we were going back to five and not claiming. I thought we would claim at York in two weeks’ time in the 100 grand handicap over six and that will be him done for the season then. Today was his first day at five and I wasn’t shocked (with the performance) to be honest. He did well to get up the hill in Galway over seven! I’d be hoping he’ll be a Listed horse next year. All my staff deserve the credit. He was tricky in stalls early in the season and they all had great patience. Jamie Joyce did a lot of work with him and Joe Doyle is as good as any professional and will ride a lot of mine going forward. He’s a super worker and great with all the younger staff. He’s a great help to me.

She’s very good and progressing all the time. I couldn’t take him off her as they are such a team together. Every time he’s ridden her they just click. He gives her a chance to find her feet and makes lovely steady progress on her. I thought he gave her a superb ride at Leopardstown by getting over from a wide draw to get a position. He deserved the ride here for that and did everything right. They were really travelling and were strung out. To go two miles at that pace and the way she found another gear off a fast pace, you would hope she would be a Gold Cup filly for next year. That’s it for this year.
El Tren gives Walton a terrific spin in Headquarters
He’s a very honest horse and always runs well. My older horses tend to run well here because they are facing home. I gave him a little bit of work today and was very happy with him. Joanna gave him a great ride. She did everything I told her to a tee and was very confident.
