An enquiry was held into the circumstances surrounding a report from the Equine Welfare Integrity Officer that the saddle of Control (GB), trained by John Butler, appeared to be left unattended.
The Equine Welfare Integrity Officer and Butler were interviewed.
Butler was fined £80 under Rule E(21) for leaving his saddle unattended after weighing out.
Approximately 2 furlongs out, Irresistable (GB), placed fourth, hung right-handed off the rail carrying Control (GB), unplaced, slightly off its intended line onto Cape Helles (GB), unplaced, who was also carried off its intended line, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Irresistable (GB).
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Cape Helles (GB), unplaced, had lost its right hind shoe.
Roger Varian's representative reported that Consensus De Vega (IRE), unplaced, was unsuited by the going, which was officially described as Good to Firm on this occasion, and would prefer an easier surface.
