Approximately 3½ furlongs out, Ghadbbaan (GB), placed third, had to be checked to avoid the heels of the weakening A Touch Of Silver (GB), unplaced, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference from approaching the final furlong involving the winner, The Craftymaster (GB), ridden by William Carson and Baileys Warrior (GB), placed second, ridden by P J McDonald.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved The Craftymaster (GB)’s placing as despite Baileys Warrior (GB) being gradually carried off its intended line for much of the home straight, there was never any contact between the two runners and The Craftymaster (GB) always appeared to be holding Baileys Warrior (GB) to win by a widening ¾ length margin.
Carson was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he had allowed his mount to shift right- handed for some distance without sufficient correction causing Baileys Warrior (GB) to moved significantly off its intended line through sustained intimidation.
Following the race, Joe Leavy reported that Gentle Fire (GB), unplaced, ran flat.
