The apparent improvement in form of the winner, Van Meegeren (IRE), which had never previously been placed on the Flat, was considered.
David Bridgwater’s comments that the gelding had good form over hurdles; appreciated the slower ground conditions, officially described as Soft, Heavy in places on this occasion; and had benefited from the step up in trip to 1 mile 3½ furlongs, having previously run over 1 mile ½ furlong, was noted.
Van Meegeren (IRE) was routine tested.
Following the race, Thore Hammer Hansen reported that Tindrum (GB), placed fourth, was never travelling.
The representative of James Fanshawe reported that Bint Australia (IRE), which started favourite and finished seventh, was unsuited by the going, which was officially described as Soft, Heavy in places on this occasion, and would prefer a faster surface.
