An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Serious Ego (GER), ridden by Ryan Day and trained by Nicky Richards which was held up towards the rear throughout before staying under a predominantly hands and heels ride in the home straight to finish third of seven, beaten 4 ¼ lengths.

The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Handicapper offered observations and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Day stated that his instructions were to drop in and take his time with a view to getting the gelding to finish his race off as Serious Ego (GER) had not been finding the line in recent runs.

He added that the pace was quite steady for the majority of the race which meant that the gelding was keen and did not jump fluently on occasions.

He further added that Serious Ego (GER) was initially outpaced when the tempo increased leaving the back straight, however had responded to his urgings from that point and having been given a back hander after the second last, had stayed on and made ground all the way to the line and obtained the best possible placing.

Day explained that he considered Serious Ego (GER) may be suited by a stiffer track and also appreciate a step up in distance.

His explanation was noted.

Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Quinlandio (IRE), placed seventh, was lame on his right-fore.
