(CLASS 4) (Northern Lights Staying Chase Series Qualifier) An enquiry was held to consider whether Sam Coltherd the rider of Ard Chros (IRE), which fell at the final fence, had continued in the race when it appeared to be contrary to the horse’s welfare.
The rider and the Veterinary Officer were interviewed and recordings of the incident were viewed.
The Veterinary Officer stated that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Having heard their evidence, rider’s explanation was noted that although the gelding had made a mistake 4 out, he had jumped the third and second last well and he did not consider that the gelding was too tired to jump the final fence.
