An enquiry was held into the apparent improvement in form of the well backed winner, Scrumpy Boy (GB), ridden by Harry Kimber and trained by Keiran Burke, compared with its previous run at Wincanton where the going was described as soft, on 2 March 2022 where the gelding was beaten 20 lengths, finishing sixth out of eleven.
Keiran Burke was interviewed.
Burkes explanation that the gelding was better suited to the good, good to firm ground and racing on a left handed track in addition to the first time application of cheekpieces was noted.
Scrumpy Boy (GB) was routine tested.
The performance of Forget You Not (FR) which finished fourth, was considered.
Jackie du Plessis could offer no explanation for the geldings performance.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post race examination of the horse revealed no abnormalities.
Following the race, James Davis reported that Askinvillar (IRE), placed second, hung badly left.
