Permission was given for Messire Des Obeaux (FR) to go early to post and to be mounted in the chute.
The apparent improvement in form of the winner, Messire Des Obeaux (FR), compared with its previous run at Wincanton on 7 January 2023, where the gelding was pulled up, was considered.
The representative of Alan King’s explanation that the gelding had benefitted from its re-appearance run which followed a 385-day break and also a 4lb drop in the handicap were noted.
Messire Des Obeaux (FR) was routine tested.
The performance of Stolen Silver (FR), which started favourite and was pulled up, was considered.
Sam Thomas could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance on this occasion, other than confirming a report from the rider, Adam Wedge, that Stolen Silver (FR) was never travelling.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
