The Stewards requested a report from M.Halford, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Alatar, placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that his charge was drawn wide on its previous run and appeared to struggle on both the ground and track. He felt the animal appeared to appreciate todays track, more favourable ground and also benefited from the application of a tongue tie. Cillian McConnell, rider of Rizannon trained by John C. McConnell, reported to the Stewards' secretaries that he got unbalanced and lost an iron before the winning post on the first circuit when his mount jinked from the rail and later on in the home straight his mount hung left.
