An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference on two occasions in the home straight involving Hadley Park (GB), placed second, ridden by William Buick and LORD SAM’S CASTLE (IRE), placed fourth, ridden by Jason Watson which was beaten by ¾ of a length and a head margin.
It was established firstly that approaching the final furlong Hadley Park (GB) hung right-handed into the path of Lord Sam's Castle (IRE), which was carried off its intended line and received a light bump, whilst in the second incident Hadley Park (GB) shifted right-handed hampering Lord Sam's Castle (IRE) when carrying that gelding several horse widths off its intended line.
The Stewards were unable to be satisfied that without both these incidents occurring that Lord Sam's Castle (IRE) would have finished in front of Hadley Park (GB) and accordingly left the placings unaltered.
Buick was cautioned for careless riding in the first incident as he had been slow to correct his mount from hanging right-handed, thereby causing interference to Lord Sam's Castle (IRE) and in the second incident Buick was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he had angled his mount right-handed around the heels of the winner Raintown, when insufficiently clear of Lord Sam's Castle (IRE) causing further interference to that runner.
Following the race, Jason Watson reported that LORD SAM’S CASTLE (IRE) hung left-handed in the straight.
