An enquiry was held into the running and riding of PRIMO’S COMET, ridden by Paul Mulrennan and trained by Jim Goldie, which sat in rear throughout, before being briefly nudged along approximately 1 ½ furlongs out, to then run on well inside the final ½ furlong under a hands and heels ride to finish sixth beaten 2 lengths.
The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination during routine testing of the gelding found it to be lame right-hind.
The rider stated that his instructions were to settle PRIMO’S COMET and obtain cover then ride his race from there.
Mulrennan explained that he had found himself further back in the field than he had intended, after suffering interference shortly after the start.
Mulrennan added that the pace was slow, and he thought the field would race down the centre of the track but instead the runners drifted towards the outside stand rail.
He stated that when asking for an effort 1 ½ furlongs out he found himself being denied a clear run, a fact which he reported at scales, before being able to ride out to the line inside the final ½ furlong to obtain, in his opinion, the best possible placing.
The trainer confirmed the instructions and that the ride accorded with the instructions given.

Following the race, Jason Hart reported that Melody King (IRE), unplaced, ran too freely.
