We took him to the beach a few days ago and he was in good order but he wouldn't show you much at home. We changed things at home with him and the less you gallop him the happier he is. We go to the beach a good bit, not to gallop but just to have him in the water and it sweetens him up. I had a good run around and got two big jumps when I needed them. The Raceday Stewards interviewed K. Callaghan, rider of Johngus, trained by Sean Aherne, concerning his riding in the closing stages of this race where he appeared to ease his mount up after jumping the last, loosing sixth place as a consequence. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that his mount made a lot of jumping mistakes including at the third last and felt he had no more to give after jumping the last. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards noted the explanation of the rider and took no further action.
An extended handicap steeplechase for five years old and upwards (140 = 11st 12lbs) Penalties - Winner of a steeplechase after calculation of the handicap shall carry 7lb extra for each steeplechase won. Riders - Confined to Professional & Claiming Professional Riders who have not ridden more than 10 winners under any N.H. Rules from 1st May, 2022 to 6th April, 2023 inclusive. (Qualified Riders are excluded from riding in this race)
