Michael gave him a super ride, and in fairness he's a very genuine and consistent horse. Tracey Collins, trainer
The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of The Islander, ridden by Anastasia O'Brien, and trained by A.P.O'Brien. Evidence was heard from the trainer's Authorised representative and rider concerned. Kieran Murphy, Authorised Representative of A.P. O'Brien, trainer, stated that the rider was instructed to drop the colt out, get him to settle and to do the best that she could. He added that this colt had run very free the last day and did not get home in a one mile race. In his opinion the colt appeared to be hanging to the left and the right but was not going forwards which suggested that he was an ungenuine type. He was satisfied with the ride. Ana O'Brien, rider, confirmed the instructions and stated that she wanted to get cover and to get her mount to relax from flagfall but found herself to be racing wide early on and he was taking a good hold. She added that the colt eventually settled but on commencing her challenge in the straight she felt that the colt ran away from the whip both sides but failed to race forwards and felt ungenuine. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that The Islander was post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations. L.F. Roche, rider of Grey Danube, trained by D.J. Bunyan, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung left in running.
