An enquiry was held to consider interference 2 furlongs out, involving Top Flight Century (FR), unplaced, ridden by Luke Morris, Lang Toon Lad (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Paul Mulrennan and Visitant (GB), placed second, ridden by David Allan.
Morris was cautioned for careless riding as he allowed his mount to drift right-handed without sufficient correction taking Lang Toon Lad (IRE) slightly off its intended line, which in turn, caused the rider of Visitant (GB) to take a precautionary check.
Inside the final furlong, Strike Rate (IRE), placed fifth, edged marginally left-handed for one hit, causing Top Flight Century (FR), unplaced, to be crowded for room and the rider to momentarily ease, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Strike Rate (IRE).
The winner, Stand Free (GB), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Beverley on 18 June 2024 where the mare finished tenth of ten runners, beaten by 49 lengths.
Ivan Furtado’s explanation that Stand Free (GB) may have benefited from a return to Newcastle, where the mare had previously won was noted.
The performance of Angelica Catalani (GB), which finished unplaced, was considered.
Nicola Barron could offer no explanation for the filly’s performance.
Angelica Catalani (GB) was routine tested.
